Secret No. 1: Use my Two-Step Hooker Formula
So, before you think Iâve gone all Pretty Woman on you, hear me out…đ
The Two-Step Hooker Formula includes two important elements:
1. A hook to lure the audience in
2. A âpowerâ or âtriggerâ word that elicits an emotional response
Put simply, a hook + power word = hooker⌠The Two-Step Hooker Formula. đ
First up, a âhookâ answers the question, âwhat gets people excited about what I am saying?â
Copywriters use persuasive techniques. One of them is called âYAY without the BOOâ (put simply, the good without the bad – it was coined by Bushra A).
For example, I wrote a sentence for my LinkedIn Magic Scripts as a YAY: âWant to know the foolproof LinkedIn formula for attracting high-ticket B2B prospectsâ without the BOO: âwithout feeling like a salesy slimeballâ.
This can be applied for your lead magnets, emails, landing pages, and even your Messenger chatbots.
Next up is using âpowerâ or âtriggerâ words that stir up emotions in your target audience. This encourages your audience to read on. And pro copywriters love to use these!
Some of the power words you could use include:
- Myths
- Banned
- Foolproof
- Kickstart
- Hypnotic
- Exclusive
- VIP
You could see a 12.7% increase in your conversion rates simply by sprinkling a few power words into your copy.

Secret No.2: Make your calls-to-action (CTAs) do the heavy lifting
In emails, and on sales pages and websites, you need to add a CTA (call to action) at the end to get your users to perform the desired action.
For copywriters, the CTA is one of the most important conversion tactics. For once, you can tell people what to do, and they actually like it!
CTAs include things like:
- Buy Now
- Buy Now & Save $X
- Read This:
- Watch This:
- Learn More AboutâŚ
One of my favourite things to do to make your CTAs really stand out and convert more readers faster is a technique I honed during the time I was a copywriter for dating expert Matthew Hussey.
We wrote his CTAs as direct response (which stirs up emotions), and hereâs a few I wrote for him:

All of these should hyperlink to your video, free gift, blog post or sales page. If you have Google Analytics (UTM link) or a link management tool like bit.ly you can include a trackable link so you can see the source (your email/Messenger bot/Facebook Ad) and how many people clicked on it.
Secret No. 3: Reward & Praise Your Audience For Performing an Action
As a copywriter, this is one of my much-loved techniques and works for landing pages or chatbot conversations where someone needs to perform the desired action to get access to something.
This could be clicking a button, giving their email address, or signing up for a free webinar.
Instead of writing âThank you for giving your email addressâ or whatever it is, you use language that reassures them that they have made the right decision.
